When I saw the words anti aging formula, I thought are we now giving babies milk to keep those horrible wrinkles from popping up when they grow older? I certainly hope so. I would have loved to have been fed an anti-aging formulation. But maybe that isn’t what that means. Maybe an anti-aging formula just means some kind of cream or makeup or even a pill that will make us look younger.

There are hundreds, if not thousands of anti-aging formulas on the market today. The real dilemma is choosing the one that is right for you. Maybe the idea of taking something by mouth to keep you from aging sounds a little Orwellian. Just take a pill and you will look younger. That is rather far-fetched. . . .maybe.

Some people think vitamins and herbs are the best pills for anti-aging. It is keeping you healthy from the inside out. And as we all know beauty starts from within. And you have seen the many types of vitamins on the shelves in drugstores. There are vitamins for skin, hair, energy etc. Should I take a vitamin for every part of my body? Surely not. We can overdose on a good thing.

There is one segment of the population that believes the best anti-aging formula is eating a healthy diet. A diet rich in fruits and vegetables, whole grains and meats goes a long way in making you look and feel better. We have all heard of the studies done on sugar. The study found that sugar can cause wrinkles. Eating lots of sugar is not a good way to be healthy, so nix as much sugar as possible from your diet as you possibly can.

Sunscreens and sun blocks are a great ways to keep your skin from aging. The sun can wreak havoc on our skin, so wearing protection is a must in order to keep your skin looking as young as possible. Sun damage can be seen in the form of wrinkles, fine lines, and brown spots. And even worse than that, sun damage can lead to skin cancer. All doctors and dermatologists recommend a sun block, even in the winter. So don’t leave home without it.

I often see cosmetics that have been featured on some newsworthy tv show. Does Oprah actually use all of these products? And when they use the word “featured” does that necessarily mean they are endorsing that product. I think when a celebrity endorses a product that makes a claim that it probably can’t deliver on, then that celebrity should be on tv apologizing to those who purchased that product. But you might say, what about juice or candy or aspirin? Everyone knows what these are for and what these can do. And another thing. . . celebrities are endorsing products that usually cost a lot of money.

My case in point: online I found the product DermaCaps. These have been featured on Oprah according to the ad. The product costs $99 plus shipping and handling for a year’s supply. On their website, there is a beautiful model. Pleeeese, are you saying if I take this anti-aging formula, Dermacap, I will look like her? Then let me order a ten year supply. It will be worth every penny.

One anti-aging cosmetic asks if you would like to grow older without feeling the effects of getting older. I would absolutely love it. Sign me up. This sounds like the fountain of youth or maybe pie in the sky. When we purchase stuff like this do we really believe these products are going to turn back the clock or even stop the clock? Surely not. We are smart people. I guess getting older isn’t easy for any of us, so we want to believe that there is something that will stop Father Time from taking his toll on us.

Whatever happened to growing old gracefully? I haven’t heard any of these anti-aging cosmetics advertise that. And why is that? The answer is simple: they want to make money off of our fears and vulnerabilities. Quite sad.

If we want to turn back the clock, then we are going to have to see a doctor and get some expert help. That’s the way it is and we might as well face it. None of us want to lose our looks, so in order to look younger the doctor is about the only way to go. It would be nice if we could return to a time when growing old was an accepted thing. Youth and beauty was admired, but not worshiped. Oh well, that’s not going to happen.

Now here’s something refreshing. The best anti-aging formula is sweat. No, you don’t bottle it and sell it, although that would be nice. But exercise is free and it is great for your body in so many ways. And yes it will even make you look better and probably younger than your years. That sounds like a great anti-aging formula to me. It isn’t nearly as easy as taking a pill or slapping on some face cream, but it does come with a guarantee.

Here’s my formula to keep us as young as possible. Eat right, exercise, wear sunscreen, and be happy with who you are. And I bet that that is an anti-aging formula that Oprah would recommend. By the way, eating right doesn’t mean you can never have dessert. Just have your sugar in moderation.
