If you have decided that you want to get into road cycling, but you do not have a clue which bike to buy, then you’ll have to do a bit of research first, as the choices can often be quite overwhelming.

There are vintage ladies bicycles at one end of the spectrum, and the professional road racing bikes at the other; and you’ll have to contend with very pushy salespeople, who will sell you anything just to get their commission, even if it means you end up with a bike you do not need.

The best way to handle getting a bike is simply to narrow down your choices at the beginning; decide upon a shortlist of two or three bikes and then investigate those thoroughly. If you are able to find them in local stores, ask if you can try them out to find the one you like the most. Then if you like, you should go onto the internet and buy that model online, where you should be able to find some decent discounts. Consider the following bicycles for beginners.

Trek 1000

The Trek 1000 is a fairly priced bike which has the feel of a more expensive model. It is a great bicycle for beginners to start on, but also has some features which offer something to the more advanced riders. Reviews online have been very favorable, and this model has been described as “spirited” and as a “fast bike” with a “racy demeanor” and all this adds up to a very popular bicycle, and one which might take pride of place as the best ladies bicycle around; especially as the price tag makes the Trek 1000 serious value for money.

Giant OCR3

The Giant OCR3 is an excellent option for a new cyclist, because of the really smooth ride and its error-forgiving frame. Some reviewers have commented that it is a little heavier and feels more sluggish than the Trek 1000, but for beginners, it is still a great entry level bike, and a good choice if you can find a good deal on one.

Raleigh Grand Sport

The Raleigh Grand Sport is an ideal ladies bicycle, mainly because of its very low price tag; at less than $600 you really don’t need to worry that buying a new bike is going to break the bank. And even at such a low price, it is still a pretty good road bike, although it can’t compete with the Trek 1000. It does have a super-lightweight aluminum frame, and so it can provide great responsiveness in its handling.
