Rechargeable lanterns are a must-have especially for camping trips, late night fishing trips, to use at home during power outages, or to bring along the car for those long drives during out-of-town trips. Hands down, it is the preferred choice over the following alternative lighting options, for various reasons :

1. kerosene lamps, for safety reasons (no need to fear for a possibility of a fire);

2. flashlights, for environmental reasons (no need to dispose of dead batteries, which take a lifetime to degrade);

3. electric lamps, which uses more energy than rechargeable lanterns; or

4. candles, for better lighting performance (needless to say, LED lights used by many rechargeable lanterns offer more brightness) and for safety reasons as well.

Not all rechargeable lanterns are made equally, though. One has to scrutinize the product features well, and evaluate if these are a necessity for your kind of lifestyle and worth paying the extra money.

Cheap rechargeable lanterns abound, but most often, these are not very reliable (lasts only for a few hours) or unsafe to use (made of breakable and non-sturdy materials) or inconvenient to bring (made of heavy or non-lightweight material).

One of the most reliable makers of rechargeable lanterns is Coleman, which is also a brand synonymous with the outdoors. Coleman’s Rugged Rechargeable Lantern is perfect for use at home or during camping. It charges from any 120v wall outlet or 12v cigarette port in your car.

It’s made from thermoplastic and rubber, which are heavy-duty but lightweight materials, and is very safe and convenient to use. Other features of this lantern include two types of brightness setting : an amber-colored LED nightlight which provides a soft glow in the dark at night, and a fluorescent twin U-tube for a brighter white light. The charger is also neatly stored in its base, so that it can be conveniently stowed away after charging.

Before using outdoors, you need to charge it for about 16 hours, though, for it to be fully charged. And then you may use it for several hours or even days. Once battery charge is low, you may simply recharge again in your car, in case there’s no outlet wall to charge it with.

It’s quite reassuring to have a reliable source of light especially in the unfortunate event of a power failure. It is especially convenient at home if you often experience power outages, because you may just plug it on your wall, and it automatically goes on in case of a power outage.

At approximately 35 USD plus shipping cost (if you will buy online), it is a reasonable amount for a guaranteed quality product from a trusted brand name.
