After moving into a larger home, I had an extra family room that needed to be furnished. This room has wooden floors that need to be re-finished, which is why I decided that until that can happen the best solution to cover up a large area and improve the appearance of the room would be to add a large area rug. However, area rugs can be costly, which is why I decided to go see what kind of selection on rugs Ikea had to offer.

After looking around at the many options, some of which were also somewhat out of my budget range, I decided to buy the area rug called Bislev. This is a very reasonably priced area rug that has a lot to offer in terms of quality and looks. The colors are very vibrant and the striped pattern really makes it stand out from other plain looking area rugs.

It is also very large for the price and the dimensions make it suitable for even large rooms. This Ikea large area rug is 6’6″ long and 4’7″ wide, which is more than enough to make a statement in any room.

Since I have children and pets, I wanted a rug that will not show every stain or drop of dirt. The pattern on this rug is great for that purpose, but even if it does get dirty with stains that can’t be removed, then the area rug can simply be turned over since the bottom is the same as the top.

Even though being reversible can win some time, the Bislev rug still has to be cleaned and this is also possible without ruining the item. It is made of pure cotton, which is an advantage in my opinion since I don’t like synthetic materials, and can be handwashed and hung out to dry.

The colors did not bleed the first time I did this and even though it has been cleaned a few times already the colors are still vibrant, so it is a rug that will be used for a long time.

Overall, this is a great area rug. However, it is not perfect and the one problem that I have noticed is that the underside does not grip the floor which causes it to easily slip or move from place.

This could be solved by just putting a table on it, or just placing an anti-slip mat underneath it. I chose to do the latter and since then it has been fine.
