Practically speaking, we need light to cook, pitch tents, wash our clothes, read, and see one another. These are all things we do when we go camping. While there is a certain mystery about the dark, we like to know that light is available when we need it. Flashlights are always good, but their light is weak and sometimes burns out quickly. What a serious camper needs is serious light. Light that will illuminate for hours without fail.
The Coleman company is the first and foremost company when it comes to all kinds of camping equipment. Tents, sleeping bags, backpacks, you name it Coleman makes it if it has anything to do with camping. So of course if you need light on your camping trip and who doesn’t, then Coleman’s got your back there too. Coleman has a laundry list of great lanterns that will meet the needs of every serious camper and those who are not so serious. In fact, the not so serious campers are probably the ones who need the most light.
Just look at all the great lanterns that are Coleman products. There is the Instastart Max Northstar, the Elite, the Premium Dual Fuel Classic Led, the Max Family Size Led, the High Tech Focusing Lantern, the Led Pack Away Lamp, the Led Rugged, and the Max Led Dynamo Lantern. This is a pretty impressive lineup of outstanding Coleman camping lantern. These can be purchased at fine stores everywhere. Walmart carries all of these lanterns, so you now you will get a great Walmart price.
Coleman also has a super line of rechargeable lanterns that can also be found in department stores and at sporting goods stores. They are excellent for camping, boating, and it also great to have these lanterns in emergencies and power outages. These lanterns can work with the other lanterns or just play backup if you don’t have the fuel to light the other lanterns.
The Coleman Rugged Rechargeable Lantern is $34.88. The charger is conveniently stored in the lantern’s base so no extra equipment has to be lugged around for charging a lantern. It comes with a nine watt fluorescent twin U-tube for brighter, whiter light. It also is equipped with an amber colored LED night light that gives off a soothing glow to soften the dark night and to allow tired campers to quickly nod off without a glaring light shining in their eyes. A camping night light can give the little ones the security of knowing they are not totally in the dark when they are camping out.
The Max Rechargeable LED is another great Coleman product. It sell for $44.88 and has many great features for those who are serious about camping. It has 145 lumens when on high. Its batter lights runs for a long ten hours on high and five hours on low. You can rest assured when you are out in the woods that you will have hours of light for blazing those camping trails.
Its LED runs cool, so if you touch it there are no hot surfaces. With its long-lasting bulb, you will purchase few replacements, making this lantern quite economical The has a chrome-plated rhino guard and is weather resistant. It will withstand whatever Mother Nature throws at it—rain, snow, sleet, hail. This is one touch rechargeable lantern.
Another Coleman creation is the Retro Rechargeable Battery Powered Lantern. This lantern sells for $44.99. It has some of the same features as the other lanterns, but I did find some mixed reviews on it. One person liked it, but had some concerns about its wiring and construction. He did like several things about it and he actually liked it much more than he disliked it. Another lady was totally unhappy with the Retro and was very disappointed that the Coleman company put out this lantern with its flaws. So you can judge for yourself, but these are just two of the reviews found online.
Then there is the Sundance Solar Rechargeable Lantern 90. I found one review on this lantern and it was highly positive. This is a wonderful lantern for just about anyplace where you would need a light. And don’t just think of these lanterns for camping only. It is always a good idea to have backup light at home. Candles are okay for short periods of time, but for longer periods of time a lantern makes a lot more sense especially because of the safety factor.
The Sundance has a nine watt fluorescent bulb that will give off 7-12 hours of light. It can be charged from a wall unit, a car lighter, and of course the sun. It solar panel folds away for night use. If going green is your thing, then you might want to consider the Sundance by Coleman. It can be run without electricity, batteries, or fossil fuels. And since it can be charged by using the sun power, it is safe for children to use. This is a great lantern that you will get lots of use from. You can use it around the house and on vacations in the great outdoors.
By using solar energy, you are not only going green, you are saving the green too. You don’t have to buy the containers of liquid fuel or unleaded gas. Both of these can get expensive and messy after a while. There is also the safety factor. Children absolutely can and should not be allowed to use lanterns in which fuel has to be purchased. So these things are all considerations when making your lantern purchase-time, expense, convenience, and safety.
If you want to hang your rechargeable lantern from a tree, you can purchase Coleman lantern hangers. By hanging your lantern, it will provide broader and better light for all the campers. A lantern hanger doesn’t cost much. It is about $4.88 at Walmart. This might be a practical purchase if you plan on camping very often.
Ozark Trail is another brand carried by Walmart. I didn’t see any rechargeable lanterns there, but I am sure this company makes them. They had many types of lanterns at Walmart that were fuel operated. If you want to purchase a rechargeable lantern with the great Walmart value and you don’t see it in the store, just go online. More than likely, you will see a variety of lanterns that are rechargeable and non-rechargeable.
With all the emphasis on ecology and waste and going green and saving the environment, there are many stores that will carry a number of great brands. And these name brands will have a great selection of rechargeable lanterns to choose from. Excellent sporting goods stores such as Dick’s and Bass Pro will have lots of lanterns and will be able to help you in selecting the right one for you. The salespeople are knowledgeable and can help you find other camping equipment that will make your camping experience a memorable one.
But don’t count out discount stores such as Walmart and Target. These stores usually have lots of lanterns and camping equipment and a friendly, knowledgeable salesperson will do his or her best to assist you in your purchase. Another idea is the Army or Navy Surplus stores. They have equipment such as this and you will probably find it at a fraction of the cost. And with these hard economic times, we are all looking to stay within our budget.
Since these lanterns are not too terribly expensive, you might think about giving them as gifts to members of your family who are interested in camping. Even if they are not campers, a lantern makes a neat gift. And when the lights go out, they will really appreciate having a bright light to illuminate their homes. Most of the lanterns come in boxes, making it pretty easy to wrap them.
If your camper isn’t into surprises then stick a bow on it and be done with it. They’ll appreciate it just as much. Christmases, birthdays, or just because are good times to give a solar rechargeable or rechargeable lantern. Even the youngsters might like a solar rechargeable for playing outside when it begins to get dark, camping out in the backyard, or having sleepovers. The rechargeables look cool and work like a charm.
Rechargeable lanterns and solar rechargeable lanterns are a must when camping. It is a convenience that will give the camper the assurance of knowing that there is light to be had. These lanterns are fun and inexpensive, so they make great gifts for just about any member of the family. When you are thinking light—think sun. When you think sun-think solar. It is free and it is ours for the taking.
