I got the VITTEN because I wanted a shag rug on a budget that would fit the taste and colors at my house. The VITTEN rug is a nice addition to my home because I like to tiptoe across my hardwood floor in my bare feet.
I also think it was a smart purchase because I have an open concept apartment and the rug frames my living area and sections it off from my kitchen table which is in the same room. It also lined up snugly with my couch so everything lines up visually.
It is quite soft, and that is what I was going for. The VITTEN can occasionally take on the new role of floor seating when my get-togethers extend beyond my small home-inventory chair. It gives a modern, vintage-like vibe to the room. It definitely makes my space more inviting and friendly. And if it’s any consolation, my guests always want to step on it whenever they come in.
Negatives
One downside is that it collects dirt very easily and is hard to clean. I have to vacuum it often because my dog practically lives on it (and so do the crumbs she leaves). That is to be expected with shag rugs I guess. It looks much better after a shaking and vacuum.
The brightness also fades over time. It came as a decent shade of white, and now is a duller, yellowish hue. I’m not a neat freak so I can handle off-white–I actually expected it to stain with my rambunctious little poodle.
My dog and my rug have too much in common. Both shed and get dirty, yet are still lovable. They will be sticking around for quite a while.
Overall, this IKEA rug pleases me. I have a love/hate relationship with shag rugs because they collect things in an otherwise clean home. However, this is a good price and holds up. I don’t like very ornate rugs because I have enough patterns on other furniture. This one is a single color, but still has enough flare. I love it because I can’t deal without a nice and fluffy rug in my life.
