In the 1970’s and 1980’s, leather biker chain wallets became something of a fashion necessity for punk rockers and grunge enthusiasts around the country. Most featured worn black leather with heavy gauge chains. Likewise, heavy metal enthusiasts discovered the tough look of these wallets also lent itself to their studded, real leather, and chained persona. However, the usefulness of a chain wallet is what has allowed this particular accessory to continue its popularity among wallet owners.
The newest generation of wallet with chain bearers is truckers. The latest incarnation of chained wallets is the trucker wallet with chain. A new twist on an existing idea, these new trucker wallets have more pockets to store receipts and other paper slips a trucker needs to keep up with throughout his workday. By having a wallet on a chain, truckers do not have to worry about losing their wallet as they get in and out of their rigs or even worse, the risk of encountering a pick pocket in a late night truck stop parking lot. These are not men’s designer wallets or a fancy Marc Jacobs wallet, but aren’t intended to be – they have a very practical day to day use.
With the added storage available for receipts, fuel perks cards, and other items, there is no more running back out to the truck for a forgotten card. The only drawback to the idea of increased storage space also means a much larger wallet size. So if you don’t want a larger sized wallet, a trucker style wallet is probably not going to work for you. Stick to the traditional or smaller size of a biker style of wallet with or without a chain.
